The
Amazonian region in Colombia is a territory that "has
an area of 403,348 kilometers square equal to the 35,4%
of the terrestrial surface of the country and includes the
departments of Caquetá, Putumayo, Amazon, Vaupés,
Guainía and Guaviare".
This is one of the few places of the world
in which man still has not had an active presence, leaving
this territory like a paradise in which exists a diversity
of resources that help sustains much endemic wildlife as
well as providing a source for much potential environmental,
medicinal, and zoological studies.

In
the Amazonian region "88 Indigenious Territories (IT),
divided into three departments: Putumayo (30 IT), Caquetá
(38 IT) and Amazon (28 IT). They occupy an approximate area
of 9.922.146 hectares. With a population of 30,000 ".
This statistics show that the people that live in the Amazonian
Region are very important, and they are a human resource
that GREEN HOPE COLOMBIA
must include when working towards the protection of the
forest. Managing the resources in a sustainable form, the
natives are experts in harvesting the land, but still have
a lack of knowledge to learn and how to handle their natural
resources to the maximum potential, without damaging their
lifesource.
GREEN HOPE COLOMBIA
has already initiated several meetings with Indigenous people,
Non Indigenous People, and Curacas (indigenous leaders)
of the Amazon forest at Km 6, enabling discussion concerning
resources and empowerment in order to mount a sustainable
program dealing with such issues including their, Chagras
(zones of culture), and maintainance of the protection of
oxygen, carbon and the different species that are related
in this fragile ecosystem. This will help us save the Amazon
Forest for future generations.

Finally,
GREEN HOPE COLOMBIA
is looking forward to provide an opportunity to bring economic
resources to the indigenous people of the Amazonian region,
so that the people can use their resources in a sustainable
form and can obtain a better life.
